PUSAT MINDA BESUT

Bersama Lim Teck Hoe.

OIL, DOLLARS & (COMMON) SENSE

The past couple of weeks have had a very strong impact on Malaysians, as the price of oil shot up to record levels and the govt. was forced to do the inevitable i.e raising the price of petrol & diesel by around 40%. I put off adding new posts as I watched how people responded to this dramatic change in their lives. The day the price hike was announced I witnessed how people clogged up petrol stations to fill up their tanks before the midnight deadline when petrol became RM2.70 per litre. I suppose people were expecting it as everyone was already aware of the high price of oil per barrel overseas. Luckily, Malaysians responded calmly (if not grudgingly) and there were no mass waves of riots or other civil disturbances.

We are aware of course that some suspected Opposition-organised demonstrators did go to the streets a few days ago (they conveniently ended their march at the PAS HQ near Jalan Raja Laut). But by and large Malaysians displayed calmness & a lot of common sense. That is not to say that people are not concerned. They are. The increase in goods and services due to the increase of petrol prices is to be expected.

Right now, the best that we can hope for is that for oil prices to be stabilised and that inflation can be kept to the minimum. As difficult as it may be, changes in lifestyle and personal expenditure will hopefully make Malaysians appreciate what they do have & keep wastage to a low level.

There is no simple solution, whatever opposition leaders like Dato' Seri Anwar like to tell everyone. If it is so simple, one will expect Pakatan-held states to themselves offer to make up the difference in price increase from the previous RM1.92 per litre, in the form of cash rebates every time someone fills up for gas in Perak, Penang, Kedah, Selangor and Kelantan. That will not happen soon and it is best that all Malaysians keep a level view of this global phenomenon of rising oil prices.

As for Puteri UMNO, all that we can do is to come to the realisation that we have to change how we live our lives, with emphasis on sustainable development of resources, minimising unnecessary waste & spending, and above all, finding a better way to raise income and wealth so that any hike in prices can be overcome. Hopefully, we can get these storm clouds behind us as soon as possible.

PUTERI'S MISSION 2013 BEGINS

Today was a big day for Pu3 Perak. At the Perak UMNO HQ this morning, Pu3 begins it's journey to help BN in it's effort to seize and wrest control of the state from Pakatan Rakyat by 2013. The Misi Pu3 2013 event started off with invited guest speaker, YB Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh giving a spirited pep-rally in front of the nearly 350-strong participants, including from all 24 Pu3 divisions from all across the state. The no-holds bared closed door session saw YB Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh and YB Dato' Seri DiRaja Mohamad Tajol Rosli rallying the troops with the talk focusing on strategies, tactics and UMNO Terengganu's experience in defeating the PAS-led govt. in 2004.

There were more than 10 hard questions from the floor that Dato' Seri Idris, to his credit, effortlessly answered and those attending, including around 15 UMNO wakil2 rakyat from both Perak and Terengganu, came away highly impressed with the former Terengganu MB and the architect of it's now famous Gelombang Biru war-cry. The hall became standing room only as all 350 seats put in place were mostly taken up. There was also a big UMNO Terengganu contingent of 30 members inc. their Pu3 who travelled all the way from KT and the whole affair saw a firm strengtening of resolve among the participants involved.

After the event, a PC was held, which was attended by reporters from various newspapers and a TV crew from RTM. As this post is being put up, reports from Bernama and The Star have already appeared online in regards to the event held this morning. NTV7 news at 8 even included a running report about Misi 2013 in it's bottom news trailer.

If the huge response from the participants were any indication, then this program can be said as being a resounding success. Hence forth, Pu3 Perak will now begin to roll out it's plans, programs and activities to stay close to the young voters in Perak. It is hoped that our mission will be successful in convincing Perakeans to vote for BN in the next GE. To this end, Pu3 Perak will be determined more than ever to assist in UMNO's fight to topple the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in control of the present state govt.

welcome to the Revolution.

COUNTDOWN TO 2013

Went to check with the printers today. The result is the banner as above. Tomorrow the puteri team at Perak UMNO HQ will go through in fine detail, the preparations for this Saturday's event. There will be around 20 members of YB Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh's Terengganu contingent arriving in Ipoh on Friday.

This event was also discussed with great enthusiasm by the Badan Perhubungan UMNO Negeri Perak. It's Chairman, YB Dato' Seri DiRaja Mohamad Tajol Rosli even announced that each UMNO Bahagian will send their G-6 plus 3 officers to listen to the talk given by YB Dato' Seri Idris Jusoh. For Puteri, we're hoping that about 250 members will descend upon Ipoh, up from an initial estimate of 190 participants.

It is hoped that this MISI PUTERI 2013 program will serve as the starting point and a new beginning towards UMNO's vigorous & concerted push to regain the people's mandate and return Perak back to Barisan Nasional by 2013.

FIRST DAY ON THE JOB (SORT OF)

Finally, I managed to find time to go to the photoshop. Picked up some photos which had been ready quite a while back. This is from the swearing-in ceremony at the Dewan Negeri on 25 April 2008. On my left is YBM Dato' Seri Raja Ahmad Zainuddin and next to him is YB Dato' Khusairi.

The next Dewan sitting is expected to be on the 24th of June 2008. Looking forward to getting the chance to ask some hard questions to our new "Kerajaan Campuran".

They've managed to annoy The Sultan and The Raja Muda with an ill thought transfer, made populist hand-outs without factoring in long term costs or consequences to the rakyat in general and to the state, and have not managed to even control their own assemblymen from threatening to split up their ill-fitted coalition of convenience. Kedah, Penang, Selangor & Kelantan pun tak kecoh macam kawan-kawan kita ni.

Hope it'll be an interesting session at the next Dewan.
